Tom Cruise + Nicolas Sarkozy: Marc Jacobs “Man Heels” Kick up a Kerfuffle in Paris

Carla Bruni Pre-Orders Every Pair in Every Color

Vertically-challenged French President Nicolas Sarkozy is as much a trendsetter as his towering ex-model wife Carla Bruni.  So much so that designer Marc Jacobs took a bow after presenting his Paris collection in “man heels”-a stacked heel boot similar to those worn by the petite statesman.  Perhaps Jacobs just needed a little something to go with the man skirt he wore in NYC a few weeks ago and the women’s necklace he accessorized his outfit with in London.

Man heels may just be coming out of the closet stateside, but they have risen in the footwear ranks in Europe because of “The Sarkozy Effect,” according to the Telegraph UK:

“The male heel has risen to the top of the footwear charts. And all because of ‘The Sarkozy Effect’.  In the wake of the State visit by the vertically-challenged, 5ft 5in French President - whose towering, 5ft 9in, ex-model wife, Carla Bruni, wears flats to try and minimise the height discrepancy - some British males are turning to heels to avoid similar embarrassment when out with their partners.”

The department store chain Selfridges has noted a surge in sales of men’s shoes with ‘stack’ heels of up to 5 cm or two inches.

Now the pinstriped businessman wants to up his game by adding to his height. Shoe brands such as Jeffrey West and Patrick Cox now provide heels of up to 5cm instead of the customary one and a half cm.

Victoria Beckham, former Marc Jacobs poster girl and Queen of the PVC Thigh High, has modeled the designer’s oft-buzzed about reverse heel, but somehow we don’t think hunky hubby David will be sporting the vertical lifts anytime soon (i.e. ever).  From his smoking hot Armani ads, he doesn’t need the ego boost.

Sarkozy’s lack of height didn’t keep him from getting the sexy girl, and a pretty hot day job. Besides, heeled shoes aren’t going to fool anyone that you can suddenly slam dunk. In ShoeMinx’s opinion, Prince, the original “high heels for men” pimp, is pretty much the only man who can get away with it without looking ridiculous.

Shop for slick men’s shoes for your guy at ShoeCompare.com, let him know there’s no need to “up his game”. Anyway, everyone knows that it’s the size of his shoe not the height of his heel that really matters. *wink*
