Sex And The City Sequel: Sarah Jessica Parker & the Girls Sign Up for Another Round of Shoes and Shopping

Hello, Lover! Another Gorgeous Manolo Blahnik Creation Gets Ready For Its Close-up

Raise those cosmopolitan glasses!  Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis have all signed on the dotted line to reprise their roles for a Sex and the City sequel of sartorial splendor.  The “s” word had been in the air for awhile but contracts weren’t actually signed until a couple of days ago.  Pardon us while we celebrate . . .YIPPEEEE!

Writer-director Michael Patrick King has yet to put pen to paper or hit “save as” on the laptop but according to E!, the plotlines won’t be as upsetting as last time.  King explains, “In the last movie, I thought (fans) wanted to see an epic and violently tragic love story, and drama, but I don’t think you go to that candy store twice.”  Shooting will reportedly begin this summer and Parker will serve as a producer—a role that will bank her a reported $30 million paycheck.  Hmmm, how many pairs of designer shoes does that work out to?

Even Vivienne Westwood, who created SJP’s much buzzed about wedding dress in the first movie, wants in on the SATC  2.0 action.  Reportedly she’s interested in writing the sequel and even wrote to producers and phoned Sarah Jessica personally to plead her case.  Clearly she knows who the real power behind the brand is.  So far the production company has yet to take her up on the offer.  Seriously, how do you say “no” to Dame Vivienne freaking Westwood?  And let’s admit it, the movie plot hardly matters as long as there are some fabulous montages of clothes, shoes and shopping.

And in more pink spangly dish, Sarah Jessica is keen to cast “Womanizer” singer Britney Spears for a part in the green-lit flick, says Heat magazine.  Brit would play a young relative of SJP’s character Carrie Bradshaw.  The SATC actress supposedly told friends:  “My idea is to have someone like Britney Spears move to New York as my cousin or niece and Carrie would show her the ropes.”  Before you start making plans to boycott, it’s not like Heat is the New York Times or anything.

But it’s not the first time that rumors of a Brit appearance on the sex-and-shopping comedy have popped up.  In 2002, it was reported that the “Gimme More” pop-tart would make a guest appearance on the show to play the teenage niece of sex-mad character Samantha, taking after her man-eater ways by stealing her aunt’s lover.  That bubble burst but really that idea is GENIUS! And after BritBrit’s Shar Jackson baby-mama drama, is not like the role would be much of a stretch.

The SATC sequel will be released sometime in summer 2010, just in time to kick-off another shoe buying craze.  Gee, what a coincidence.
