Natalie Portman Puts Her Politics First with New Vegan Shoe Line

Somehow we don’t think Sarah Jessica Parker

will be giving up her leather Manolos any time soon…

Girls who fantasize about being Natalie Portman can now take a walk in her shoes, literally. The star of The Other Boleyn Girl and Garden State has joined the ranks of Jessica Simpson and Gwen Stefani in launching her own shoe line. Portman’s line is now available through Te Casan and features a range of styles - from casual flat sandals to “notice-me” heels. Unlike Stefani and Simpson’s bovine-blessed shoe designs, Portman’s collection is 100% vegan. As in, they don’t contain any animal products. Our activist actress endeavors to fight animal cruelty with the same tenacity that she fought corruption in V for Vendetta. One cheeky stiletto at a time.

Portman, famous for her humanitarian efforts and eco-friendly lifestyle, told reporters:

“As a vegan, I don’t wear leather, fur or feathers. Shopping for clothes hasn’t proved too difficult, but finding chic footwear has definitely been a challenge.”

So she’s celestially beautiful, talented, and a saint? Did we mention that profits from the shoes go to an eco-conservation charity?

While the line is styled with classic, understated grace, the shoes are a bit pricey for the basic looks offered and synthetic materials used. After all, Natalie has said the only other vegan shoes in the mainstream market are Target brand shoes. That’s only because synthetic materials are so much cheaper (and more cheaply made). In an effort to make women more interested in buying $200 Target-inspired heels, many of the styles have been released as limited edition specials - only 100 pairs were ever made available.

But honestly, our efforts to try and find fault with the line were thwarted when we realized we were drooling over many of the styles on the Te Casan website, especially the Porto. When we considered that the $315 we were debating dropping would actually go to charity - we pointed, clicked, and now anxiously await our animal-free shoes - think that could be considered tax deductible?

Here are a few of The Daily Pump’s favorite shoes from the collection:
